This years Penguin Plunge has been shifted to the Du Toit St slipway to make it nearer to the heart of Stanford and thus more accessible for participants and spectators. Participants will be provided with a floating jetty from which they can plunge into the river and after a brief swim they can waddle up the concrete slipway like true Stanford Penguins. Participants are asked to make a donation to the Penguin Plunge fund and they will be rewarded with a traditional glass of gluhwein or hot chocolate once they have completed their plunge. Springfontein Winery is again providing the gluhwein and warm food will be available for purchase on the day.
The Overstrand Municipality will be providing assistance with traffic etc. In June 2011 we had 24 participants and raised R2151.75 every cent of which was used to provide ingredients for the Stanford soup kitchen. In June 2012 we had 46 participants and raised R3285.00 and again every cent was utilized, roughly 50% for "bags of love" which were distributed amongst Stanford's elderly indigent people over Christmas and the balance has been used once again to provide ingredients for the Stanford soup kitchen which is assisting the elderly in Stanford. Once again every cent raised will be utilized for purchase of ingredients for the soup kitchen and for other purchases such as bags of love etc. specifically for distribution to the elderly indigent residents of Stanford. Verification of the funds and utilisation thereof is done strictly in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Stanford. So in the interests of warming up and nourishing the elderly in need, come and join us in getting a bit chilled for a really worthy cause.
