DON-WAUCHOPE DUO READY FOR PRONUTRO AFRICANX TRAILRUN “Let Nature Give You A Run For Your Money”4/6/2013 Husband and wife trail running sensation Iain and Su Don-Wauchope (Central Drakensberg) will be aiming for a successful title defence the weekend of 19 – 21 April 2013 when they take on the 5th annual ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance, South Africa’s most exciting three day stage trail run.
According to Su Don-Wauchope the success of a mixed team partnership lies on the male participant. “I don’t think mixed teams complement each other, I think the success of a mixed partnership is a male runner who doesn’t mind running slower than usual and carrying the pack and a female runner who doesn't complain when she has to race way out of her comfort zone. Iain is an awesome athlete. I am always amazed how he manages to race when I know how little time he has had to train. My strategy will be to get fit enough to survive three days of running and hard enough to keep up with my husband”, laughs Su. “Su has great mental tenacity and toughness”, says Iain Don-Wauchope. “Since we know each other’s character’s so well, we know how to respond to various situations. The competition at the ProNutro AfricanX is always healthy, while variety is the spice of life. So I say bring on the new trails and new adventures. The best advice that I can give to runners is to remember to stop and smell the roses, enjoy the views and engage with your fellow runners”. Teamwork forms an essential part of the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance, as participants will have to rely on each other’s experience, strength and expertise in order to complete the route. Teams of two (male/female/mixed) will be seen battling it out on a route varying in distance between 25-km each day. The three routes have been planned in such a way that the participants will have the opportunity to tackle a different breathtaking scenic route each day, allowing them to enjoy the full beauty of the Overberg. DATE: 19 – 21 April 2013 FORMAT: Three-day stage race / teams of two (male/female/mixed) VENUE: Festival Village on the grounds of the Houw Hoek Inn DISTANCE: Between 25km – 33km each day The race village in Houw Hoek will be a hive of activity with entertainment throughout the day, which makes the event ideally suited as a family breakaway. Family and friends will also be able to support the athletes at various vantage points along the route. with Dawn Garisch TAKING IN THE VIEW: POETRY AS WINDOW AND MIRROR Poets usually report back from life using different tools and language from that of journalists, diarists, historians and novelists. You will learn methods to access the images that underlie the subject matter that draws you, and how to have an interaction with them on the page. This attention to detail and the symbolic helps to expand the poem, even as you pare it down to its essence. This three day course will assist you to become more present and sensate to that which wants to be written. Making yourself available to what the poem wants of you means that information will arrive on the page that will surprise you. Beginner poets are welcome, as long as writing of any kind has been an important part of your life. Taste is the most obvious, as is aroma. For Jenny touch is also important. "Feeling your food is important," she says. "Caress it, stroke it, know it intimately." How you eat your food will reveal what kind of lover you are. "You don't want someone who eats a sosatie (kebab) with a knife and fork," says Jenny with the naughty spontaneous laugh that has earned her the moniker of Giggling Gourmet.
