Jean Daneel WinesJean has had 35 harvests in his life as a winemaker. 34 more than a forester he would add tongue in cheek, a forester gets on average one harvest in his life as trees would more often than not be cut down at the age of 100 years plus. Jean’s harvests were done in Germany, France, Constantia, Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and since 2006 in Napier.
Jean had his ear to the ground when he considered buying his own farm and the cold climate along the coast of L’Agulhas where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet with the Elim farms already firmly established as top producers especially in Sauvignon Blanc, made it the ideal place to settle down to grow his own grapes. A small river through the property, close to town for his wife, Renee’s restaurant was the final element in settling in Napier. Eldest son, Jean-Pierre joined the family business and is now firmly ensconced in the seat as winemaker of JD wines with the JD, Signature and Directors Signature labels in his hands. Jean himself will make the wines strictly from Napier from the family farm, Domaine Daneel. Great excitement for him as a spanking new label, Wine of Origin Napier is in the design. Release of the Napier wine will be at a later date. Tel : 076 105 6225 or 072 673 9301 Strandveld VineyardsStrandveld Wines – the southernmost winery on the continent of Africa.
