BREDASDORPLying between lush green hills and the magnificent cape agulhas coast line is a small Agricultural town Bredasdorp. Bredasdorp claims to be the first 'dorp' of South Africa, established in 1838 by Micheal van Breda. Being the center to quiet a few smaller towns and farms in the area Bredasdorp is upgrading their infrastructure at every change they get and has recently under went quiet a few changes.
Bradasdorp has manage to up keep quiet a few of their historic buildings, one of them being the beautiful white church in the center of town. Another is The shipwreck Museum the only of it's kind in South Africa. The Shipwreck museum tells visitors the stories of all the ships that has been wreck on the rocky Southern Africa coast line and honor all the lives that was lost. The earliest known wreck being the Zoetendal of 1673 the first recorded wreck on our coastline. Bredasdorp is the perfect stop over for holiday makers on their way to Arniston, Struisbaai and L'Agulhas. Bredasdorp also draws hundreds of farmers from all over the Overberg for it's annual Agri Mega Week, this festival usually takes place somewhere around the months of August and September. Bredasdorp is definitely starting to BOOM and is showing no sign in stopping. |
